Dogara flags off re-election campaign …Urges Nigerians to resist rigging, protect their votes …prays God to destroy plotters of killings, violence during 2019 elections ..As 8 APC State State, 10,000 members defect to PDP Speaker of the House or Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, on Saturday flagged off his -re-election campaign in Bununu, headquarters of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, where he called on the people to resist any attempt to instigate violence and rig the 2019 elections. He also warned that there are people who do not have any ancestral link, connection or origin in Bauchi State but want to cause violence and killings during the elections because they have nothing to lose and therefore, called on the people to do everything possible to foil the plot because they are the ones who will lose relatives, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers in addition to their ancestral homes. Hon Dogara told his supporters to ensure that they monitor their votes on election day from the beginning to the end of the exercise in order to foil any plan to rig the polls. “On election day, when you vote, don’t go home: vote and wait until all votes are counted and results announced and escort the vote. There are some of our unpatriotic people who are conniving with the Bauchi State government to cause violence,” he said. The speaker lamented that good governance has eluded Bauchi State in the last four years, unlike other states that have been witnessing development. And that in spite of his spirited efforts to spur development from the grassroots through the bill passed by the National Assembly to grant autonomy to local government councils, some governors did all within their powers to block it in order to continue to divert local government funds. Hon Dogara also appealed to his constituents to vote out the present government in order to bring in a government of the PDP which will be dedicated to infrastructure development of the state and the country at large. He disclosed to his constituents, the unwillingness of the state government to support this efforts at bringing developmental projects to the state, saying, “I did everything within my power together with my colleagues to give autonomy to local governments but some state governors connived with some states assemblies to block it. Today, the local government is non-existent and the ordinary people don’t benefit anything from there. “We have attracted so much infrastructural development to Bauchi State but the State government even sponsored some youths to protest and sweep the venue of the flag-off of road construction in 2017. “Now that they see work is ongoing, the same Bauchi State government and its supporters have turned around to say the projects are President Muhammadu Buhari’s. So if they knew it was Buhari’s projects, why were they opposing it?” “We attracted schools and other projects too numerous to mention but the Bauchi State government stopped the work and chased away the contractors. Don’t allow them deceive you. Even mosque we wanted to renovate here in Bununu they stopped it.” He also used the avenue to emphasise that neither him nor his political associates have any personal grudge against President Muhammadu Buhari but are only concerned about the welfare and security of the Nigerian people. “None of us here hates President Muhammadu Buhari,” he stated, adding, “we do not hate him but the truth is we are worried and concerned about the future of our people in Nigeria, especially the North East, which has been ravaged by Boko Haram violence. If not checked, it will consume us here even in Bununu, may God forbid. Poverty and killings and bloodletting have ravaged our land. Two days ago, two people who did everything to stop me from joining the PDP called after watching Buhari’s interview on television to apologise to me and said they thank God for opening their eyes.” While decrying the desperation to remain in power in the face of glaring incompetence, he prayed that God will destroy whoever equates himself with Him as the one who gives and takes power and positions, as He did to Pharaoh a d other despots and dictators. He also apologised to the people of Bauchi for helping to bring the present state government that has been a massive and monumental failure to power and sought their forgiveness. At the campaign rally, eight former executives of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in addition to over 10,000 other members defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The event was attended by the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, deputy governor of Gombe State, Hon Charles Illiya, director general of the Gubernatorial campaign of the PDP in Bauchi State, Senator Abdul Ningi, serving and former members of the National Assembly from Bauchi and neighboring states, members of the national PDP, as well as the executive and members of the party in Bauchi State.

Dogara promotes football talents in 20 Bauchi LGAs Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, has urged Nigerian youths to focus on developing their talents in sports as participation on professional levels has proven to be an effective route to exiting poverty. Speaking at the finals of the intra-state Dogara Unity Football Competition in Bauchi, Bauchi State, the speaker said though education remains the bedrock of development, participating in professional sports have over the years, played a big role in empowering youths, especially financially. He explained that it was because of this fact that he took the initiative to sponsor the football competition which was keenly contested by football teams from all the local government areas in the state and beyond. Recall that in December 2017, the speaker had vowed to sponsor a state-wide football competition in order to harness the talents of Bauchi youths and put them in form for onward selection into local and national teams. He promised that the 2nd edition of the competition will be better organised and requested the support of Bauchi people to elect a government that will support his initiative. The speaker said, “This event is not just for playing and feeling good about it. You will notice that football has become one profession that can lift youths out of poverty. One good footballer may do better in uplifting a community out of poverty. I am not saying that education is not important. It is important but as you train yourselves in education, also concentrate on sport activities.” Expressing delight that about six of the participants have already been contracted by clubs outside the state, he hoped that it will lead eventually to the inclusion of a Bauchi State indigene in the national team. The competition was won by Dogara Boys Football Club who carted away one million naira prize money; Super Starlets of Azare second place with a cash prize of seven hundred and fifty thousand naira; while Misau FC went home with a cash prize of five hundred thousand Naira. Onnoghen: Nigeria not a banana republic- Speaker Dogara Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon Yakubu Dogara, has called for caution in the charges filed against the Chief Justice of Nigeria Hon Justice Walter Onnoghen by the Federal Government. In a statement issued Sunday, Hon Dogara said that while the House awaits further briefing from relevant agencies, nevertheless, it is important that due process is followed because Nigeria is a country govered by laws and not dictates of men. He noted that the House is not less zealous in the fight against corruption but said to commence a matter of that grave magnitude with a media trial is pregnant with innuendos least needed by the polity at this sensitive time. The Speaker asserts that Nigeria is a country governed by laws with clearly spelt out procedures and processes for their activation and not the dictates of men. It is important that people in authority should excercise power with decorum and not plunge the nation to needless crises as Nigeria is not a banana republic. “This is a matter that affects another arm of government and its head which should be treated with caution so as not to send the wrong signal that there is a political undertone or other ulterior motives to the issue”. “As we raised our voice when the National Assembly was invaded by hooded security men last year, it is incumbent on us as the legislature to voice our concerns because we operate under a system where three arms of government are co – equal branches and enjoy a measure of independence guaranteed by the Constitution.” “As we approach the general elections, it is incumbent on the prosecutorial authorities to exercise caution and treat matters of this nature with utmost circumspection.” Turaki Hassan Special Adviser (Media & Public Affairs) January 13, 2019
